Melanie Lucia Esterine
STUDENT, WRITER, DREAMER, HUMAN
My name is Melanie Lucia Esterine and I am currently a student at the University of Michigan. I am studying "Biopsychology, Cognition, & Neuroscience" with a Minor in Writing.
Though one day I hope to become a Clinical Psychologist, I cannot deny the profound love that I hold for writing. It has been a constant throughout my life. In the times I have felt lonely, in the times that I have felt afraid, and in the times that I have felt restless, writing has been steadfast. To writing and to music, another love of mine, I owe thanks. I thank them for getting me through my toughest days.
I was born and raised in Queens, NY to immigrant parents; my mother from Colombia and my father from Jamaica. A childhood filled with everything from Bob Marley records & Jerk Chicken to Bandeja Paisas and the Spanish language is the one I was so incredibly lucky to have. This beautiful intertwining of cultures I was raised around along with the immense culture I was exposed to in New York City shaped me into the person I am today.
Wherever I end up in this world, I am forever grateful to New York City and all that it taught me.
